Joseph Hamel, a Russian academician, was the first who attempted to make a close study of Russian-English intercourse concerning the period of its initiation. He based his research on Russian and English State Archives records, having carefully studied information on diplomatic and trade relations between two countries. History was not the only field the academician had a concern in.
