Based on the analysis of the requirements for competences of professional engineers and university graduates of engineering programs as described in the documentation of international organizations, the article considers a feature of the Bologna-based model of an engineer that should be taken into account when developing new federal state educational standards for training specialists in the areas of equipment and technologies in Russia.
