Abstract

The article presents the view that modern British historiography takes on the status of the Church in the late Middle Ages England. Having completed a many-sided analysis of a number of works of Whig historians A.G.Dickens, T.M.Parker and some revisionist historians, such as Ch.Haigh, J.J.Scarisbrick, S.Brigden and M.Bowker, the author comes to share the revisionist historians' opinion on the matter and draws the conclusion that the position of the Church was stable, with the Reformation hampering its further development.

The article presents the close analogy between the traditional semi-underground housing Paleo-Asiatic people (the Chukchi, Koryak, Yukagir, Eskimo, etc.) and some types of dugouts dwellings of Upper Paleolithic in the East European Plain (Byki 1, Gagarino, Kostenki 8 Layer 1). The hypothesis concerning the formation of similar settlement stereotypes in similar climatic conditions, subject to similar economic and cultural patterns of the population.

Enormous natural resources in Russia significantly influenced the making of industrial policy of the USSR. Oil and gas played a key role in that policy. The way from Baku to Tyumen is the evidence of progress in science and technology. However, the success of the Soviet customization did not mean to stop the progress; but a long-period hope for extensive growth factors brought the country to a deadlock. Notwithstanding the immense changes in the world, at the end of the 20h century the country continued to develop in the direction which had been set in 1930's-1950's.
