Abstract

The article deals with the sacred symbolism of the Russian Orthodox culture in the material available to scholars P.A. Florensky, A.S. Uvarov. The author examines two most significant symbols of Russian Orthodoxy - a Cross and an Icon of both the semantic and integrative start in understanding the cultural and creative process in Russian thought. It is concluded that reconstruction of spiritual experience through these characters continue to perform its functions in contemporary culture.
